When Danny Saldana began working at A+ Academic Coaching, he had a big task to accomplish. The executive director, Mark Ayers, had successfully run his A+ Academic Coaching, based in Albuquerque, NM, for 15 years, but he needed Danny to make a transition to using technology more effectively. Danny’s extensive experience in online publishing and as a Middle School special education assistant led him to focus on the operations of how tutoring sessions were scheduled. According to Danny, “We really needed a better way to do scheduling.”
After trying different products, Danny found Trilogy Mentors, and immediately, the scheduling function eliminated a big problem: double-booking tutoring sessions. Using the Trilogy Mentors platform, the schedule remained clear because the tutor or someone from the company could book the tutoring session, but once booked, the master schedule recorded it. Making this more efficient really helped take the load off Mark, the executive director, so he could focus on his own teaching and running the business.
Then, the outbreak of COVID-19 occurred. Describing the Trilogy platform, Danny says, “We got it just in time!” Immediately, A+ Academic Coaching could make the transition to teaching online: standardized test preparation and subject specific academic tutoring. And because, as Danny says, the platform is “very user friendly and intuitive,” everyone at A+ Academic Coaching was able to adjust to the new reality of online tutoring, finding the entire move seamless, a move made even easier by the prompt customer service the Trilogy Mentors team provided.
Amidst the COVID-19 shut down with all schools in New Mexico closed, A+ Academic Coaching has continued operating. The company mostly serves high school students, and their parents are relieved to have an online option for their children. “It’s a low risk way for parents to continue their children’s education” and parents and students are happy because “they don’t have to make sure [the Trilogy platform] works.” At some point, the SAT/ACT will be rescheduled, and A+ Academic Coaching students will be ready.
For Danny, most importantly, the Trilogy Mentors platform helps maintain the relationship the company’s tutors have established with their students. Even though those students are not attending school, the scheduling function and the reminders sent to students keep them accountable in an online structured learning environment. And even from his home office, he reports the tremendous benefit: “I can still see my students and check in on them.”
